Penang Umno will recommend to the Federal Government to stop all proposed mega projects in the state, include those planned under the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER), the second Penang Bridge, the light monorail transit system, the Penang Outer Ring Road, the Penang Sentral and the RapidPenang bus service.
State Umno secretary Datuk Azhar Ibrahim said the previous Gerakan-led state government had worked together with the federal government to bring all sorts of development to Penang.
“Since the people have clearly rejected development and made their choice for a change, we will recommend to the federal government to cancel all such projects. Don’t blame us for this,” he said after a state liaison committee meeting here today.
The above statement was quoted from New Straits Times, 13th March 08. This actually shows that our respected UMNO leaders still need to enroll for “Anger Management” courses or read up articles on “How to be a Successful Leader for Dummies”.
So far in my life, I have never heard a successful leader will take revenge in such way. Never a wise country leader will seize the main projects that will bring wealth to their country all because their citizens didn’t show support to him during election. This will directly stop the income flowing into Penang and most important indirectly stopping the cash flow to the Federal Government as well.
Most important point to support that this is not a wise move by stopping all the projects as this will turn our DAP-led state will turn into a poor state. There will be no more improvement and new infrastructure but most importantly this will lead to Malay people in Penang to become more marginalized.
Do you think getting your supporters to show protest in town area will win back the votes which you have lost? By doing this you think you can gain back the voters’ confidence?
By doing this do you think it can scare us away? No, this will not scare us away, we are holding Malaysia Passport and we are the citizens here. If you do so, you will end up scaring away all the foreign investors instead.
If you have the heart to build a better Malaysia, please stop provoking such incidents.
Please THINK of the consequences of this childish act! Think twice before you make any decisions. If you still can’t get any better solutions, please think three or four times. We still able to accept a slow brain leader, rather than a brainless leader.
