BeerBQ Bistro, Precinct 10 – Great Meal Complemented with Beer

Germans usually love to dine their meal with beer. In fact, each meal is paired with different types of beer. As for us Penangites, the best we goe for is either Tiger, Carlsberg or Guinness. For those who wanted to try something unique and unusual, BeerBQ Bistro is the place where you can dine with different types of dishes paired with different types of beer.

BeerBQ Bistro is located at Precint 10, a new happening place in Penang. Precint 10 is just next to Island Plaza in Tanjung Tokong. The ambiance of this restaurant was very cozy and comfortable.

Smoked Salmon Salad – RM19.90++, even this appetizer had a pairing beer. It went well with USA’s pale lager, Budweiser. The smoked salmon was used to wrap a piece of celery. It was served with homemade cheese sauce. Accompanying the smoked salmon was the romaine lettuce salad mixed with homemade sauce.

The salmon tasted fresh while the chew of celery made the texture crunchy and juicy. The taste was refreshing and delicious. As for the salad, the dressing was very appetizing. It was a mixture of olive oil with vinegar and some sunquick juice.

For those that prefer heavier appetizer than the smoked salmon salad, you may consider Roast Pork – RM16.90++. For this meal the pairing beer would be Belgium’s pale lager, Stella Artois – RM22++/bottle. The roast pork was made from the pork belly portion. The chili sauce served for this dish was very similar to the Thai’s sourish chili sauce except it was topped with some sesame.

The texture of the skin was very crispy while the fatty portion added the juicy bite in between. The taste of this dish was divine. The only drawback of this dish was the texture was a bit dry. It would tasted much better if the meat was roasted to be more juicy.

BeerBQ Pork Burger – RM21.90++, this huge burger was stuffed with 250gm of minced pork patty. The burger also contained onion slices, lettuce, onions, tomatoes and some homemade mayonnaise sauce. Besides that, t was topped with a slice of cheese and some barbecue sauce. To complete this dish was some fries on the side.

This barbecue burger is one of the signature dishes of BeerBQ Bistro. In fact, this pork burger was my favorite dish as well. The burger was very juicy and the patty was soft as though it melted in your mouth. It is truly hard to find a good pork burger around, except in this place.

BeerBQ Pork Ribs – RM38.90++, the grilled pork ribs were well marinated and cooked with their special homemade barbecue sauce. Serving together with this dish were potatoes wedges and some green salad. Pairing with this dish was  Germany’s dark lager, Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier Dunkel

The barbecue sauce tasted very nice and the aroma of the barbecue ribs was very nice. The only thing that was not enough was the sauce for the ribs and it made the meat dried up. If the sauce could be more then this would be a perfect dish.

Fish and Chips – RM21.90++, generous portion of dory fish covered with crispy batter. Fries, greens, tartar sauce and some vinegar were served alongside with this dish. The perfect pairing beer would be Belgium’s witbieren (white beers), Hoegaarden White – RM20++ for 1/2 pint, RM30++ for 1 pint.

Actually I do not mind which fish was selected for my fish and chips. However, the selection of this fish tasted slightly muddy. It seemed to me the freshness was not there. Although the batter was nice, this dish would be more perfect if the selection of the fish was fresher.

Spaghetti Vongole – RM18.90++. The spaghetti was pan fried with some clams, chopped garlic, chili flakes, mixed herbs and some nice stock with their specially selected choice of white wine. It was then topped with coriander.

For those that love spaghetti with seafood, this would be a great choice to choose.

BeerBQ Seafood Platter – RM40.90++. This was the ultimate seafood platter. It had a combination of large prawns, scallops, squids and mussels. The sauce covered was their homemade signature barbecue sauce again. The dish was also accompanied by mashed potatoes and some greens. Pairing with this dish would be Germany’s light lager, Lowenbrau – RM22++/bottle.

The sauce blended in very well with the seafood. The portion provided was very generous and it was delicious. For those who love seafood, this is definitely a thumbs-up!

As for desserts, the recommended one would be  Stout Chocolate Cake – RM12.90++. The cake was flavoured with stout and covered with chocolate mud. It was then topped with some whipping cream. The taste was very rich and filling.

For those that want to try out something unique, you can call for Blue Ocean Beer – RM22.90++ and Chili Beer – RM22.90++. These 2 beers are the only cocktail beers around in town. The blue ocean tasted heavenly where you get to taste the blue curacao and the zests of lemonade feel. It will give you a relaxed feeling just like strolling by the seaside. On the other hand, Chili Beer will give you a completely different feeling. The ingredients in the beer are tobasco sauce, bird eye chili and black pepper. Once drank, your throat will have a burning sensation and you will feel you are like burning to hell.

For those non-alcoholic drinkers, you can always try out their BeerBQ Triple – RM9.90++. This drink was made from a combination of orange, apple and pineapple juices.

Overall, the place here was very cozy and nice. It caters for those that want to chill and dine at the same time. The price of the food was slightly on the high side as the location is in the hip and happening place. A plus point for the slightly high price is the food is served in generous portion. The parking lots are plentiful, except public holidays and weekend night time. I would definitely come back to this place again.
