I have always been reluctant to share another hidden gem to the public as when the place is exposed, it will become very crowded. However, as a foodie it is my responsibility to share out this place as it is worth to visit and it is one of the most affordable place for breakfast.
Cafe 5001 is a cosy and nice coffee stall. It is located inside the relocated Fettes Park market. Besides the regular coffee and toasts, there are also many hawker stalls around which complete this food court.
You do not have to worry about GST, service tax and weekend prices. This place is down to earth and is always filled with people. One of the selling points for Cafe 5001 is the home cooked Chinese Hawthorn (山楂) drink with no-added sugar. This is a plus point for diet-conscious people.
The toasts are prepared using Massimo wheatgerm bread which is another selling point here as it is definitely healthier.
To me, this is a good start of breakfast: a cup of local coffee, 2 half-boiled eggs and a set of toast.
Toast with kaya or butter – RM1.70 per set. The crunchy that was tasty and healthy.
2 half-boiled eggs – RM1.70, it may sound simple but consistency is vital in preparing perfect half-boiled eggs. If over-cooked you will get hardened egg white and if under-cooked it will be too raw. So far the half-boiled eggs here were just nice.
Hot Coffee – RM1.20, this is the starter of my day. The coffee here was thick and aromatic. I just love the coffee here.
A simple toast, half boiled eggs and a cup of coffee completes my breakfast. I love this type of breakfast as it is nutritious and affordable. This place is very cozy as it is surrounded by trees. The price of the food here is definitely affordable as it is at the marketplace. The only drawback is it is very hard to find a place to park.
