Wantan Mee, also known as Wanton noodle is one of the signature street food in Penang. However, there are many versions available such as the spicy version, the sesame version and the regular dark soy sauce version. If you can’t decide which version to try out, then head to Winner Ho’s stall at Chew Jetty Cafe.
If you have a big appetite, ask the owner to prepare a full bowl without additional charges. Normally, such request does not exist at other stalls. However, at Winner Ho stall, this can be made possible without additional costs.
Winner and wife are very friendly and they are at Chew Jetty Cafe for almost a year. With the noodle all the way from Ipoh and mixed with their homemade gravy, their wantan noodle is made with full of love.
One of the signature wantan noodles here is the 3-flavored wantan noodle – RM4.00. On this single plate you could find 3 different flavors – sesame, dark soy sauce and spicy. It is then topped with deep fried pork lards, barbecue pork slices and garnished with spring onions along with a small bowl of soup with 4 pieces of wantan.
The sesame flavored noodle is the version to start with as the flavoring is mild with a hint of savory and sesame scent. The next to go will be the dark soy sauce version as the flavor is a bit thick and deep. While the last to go will be the spicy vesion in which the sauce is spicy which will make your tongue numb.
The wantan here is also something to highlight as they are homemade. The texture was juicy and packed with some crunchiness of water chestnut.
Overall, the wantan mee here is nice and unique as you can have all 3 flavors in one plate. Most importantly, it is value for money as the portion is big. For those that would like to have more, just ask the friendly boss, Winner Ho and he will be more than willing to top up for you without additional charges.
