Rasa Sayang simply means the feeling of love in Malay. It is also the name of one of the most exclusive hotels and resorts in Penang. It has always been a pleasure to chill and relax in this place.
F.I.P. (Fun, Interactive and Play) Lounge at Rasa Sayang Resort is the place where you can arrange for private functions or events.
Currently, F.I.P Lounge is also offering Coffee and Cake Buffet every Saturday and Sunday from 3pm to 6pm. This All-You-Can-Eat tea session includes 10 types of whole cakes, scones and cake pops with free flow coffee and tea. It is priced at RM 47 nett per adult and RM 24 nett for child (6 to 11 years old).
The variety of cakes include Cheese Cake, Banana Chocolate Cake, Apple Cake, Carrot Cake with cream cheese frosting, Tiramisu, Black Forest Cake, Fruit Flan, Strawberry Shortcake, Scones and decorated Cup Cakes. The cakes are prepared by seasoned cake maven, Executive Pastry Chef, Dino Wan, and his creative pastry team.
Cake Pop – This is a favourite to both young and old. It is a lolipop cake and the flavours are available as below:
- Chocolate moist pop cake
- Orange poppy seed cake
- Red velvet cake pop
- Cheese cake cake pop
Carrot cake – nice and fluffy, the cinnamon aroma is heavy and the cake is also full of finely-shredded carrot.
Banana chocolate cake – packed with chocolate flavour but fortunately it is not too sweet.
Strawberry shortcake – sourish and fruity, no much sweetness and it has a appetizing taste.
Baked cheese cake – rich and smooth cheese with the strong cheese aroma.
Blueberry cinnamon crumble cake – packed with cinnamon aroma with a touch of sweetness over the cake but the texture is a bit on the dry site. This is not my cup of tea.
- Chocolate moist cup cake – the topping is not as sweet compared to the base, yet I feel the base has a better taste but not doing good to those who are watching their diet.
- Orange poppy seed cup cake – the orange-flavoured cup cake is baked with poppy seeds which is giving a slight numbness to the tongue.
Hazelnut cream cake – the cake looks and tastes like any usual birthday cake but with the hazelnut flavor it makes the cake distinctive. With the complement of hazelnut crunch all over the cake it is a perfect match.
Sugi cake – the Sugi is pure and packed with “Sugi” flavor. It is covered with some icing sugar and chopped pistachio.
Red velvet cake – a usual red velvet cake but topped with cream cheese and chopped pistachio. The texture is moist and rich.
Sacher torte – the base is made from chocolate as well. The taste is slightly sweet compare to chocolate banana cake.
Apple pear nut cake – if I closed my eyes to taste it I wouldn’t have figured out it is an apple and pear nut cake. However, the taste of it is light and not too rich which is acceptable after too many rich-flavoured cakes.
Scones – there are 2 types of scones. One is a plain scone and the other is with coconut strips. It can be served with French apricot or strawberry extra jam or fresh cream. The jam provided is packed with slices of apricots and strawberries which is a bonus.
The English breakfast tea and standard brewed coffee are included in the buffet set.
Additionally, you may have a jar of Chamomile tea at RM 16++ per pot.
Executive Pastry Chef, Dino Wan is showing off his creations.
Other than indulging into the cake and coffee buffet, you can also have some fun with the several 3D photos at the F.I.P Lounge.
Overall, most of the cakes are good and you can feel that they use high-quality ingredients to bake the cake and pastries. The price for the unlimited servings of cake and coffee at RM47 for adult in this exclusive ambience is considered reasonable. The only problem is that the diners won’t be able to go for more rounds due to the richness and sweetness of the cakes.
