Imagine yourself sitting by the seaside, enjoying the sea breeze, tasting a cup of tea and savoring variety of dim sum. It is an absolute enjoyment of life. Of course, other than the hot babes on bikini by the seaside, the rest that you name it as a gratifying of life will be available at Ko Fu Loft.

Besides the good things mentioned above, the seaside breeze is substituted with air-conditioners and there are shades with UV-protected glass so that you could enjoy the scenery and sun tan without sweat which give additional marks to this restaurant as a good place to dine in.

Ko Fu Loft is a new place for oriental taste which started their business back in May 2009. The surrounding is very spacious and on the other hand the ambience is very cozy.

There are also private rooms available for those who are looking for more privacy and quiet environment.

There are 3 kitchens at Ko Fu Loft as each of the kitchen serves different types of food.

The making of Deep Fried Pandan Lotus Paste Dumpling was in progress.

The making of Ice Kacang.

Appetizer:
Ko Fu Sesame Seed Ball (RM10.90) is one of the the signature dishes here. The minced meat is made into balls and which has been added with water chestnuts and chinese celeries. There are some spices added to it and it is great to go with the thousand island sauce.

Crystal Spring Roll Skin Stuffed with Vege & Chicken Meat (RM6.90). This is a Vietnamese appetiser. Overall the skin and the veggie was up to par. However the chili sauce for dipping was slightly too sweet and there is still room for improvement for this dish.

Dim Sum:
Steamed Fresh Prawn Dumpling – Har Kau (RM5.50). The prawns were quite fresh and the exterior was soft. It is a standard type of Har Kau.

Pork Dumpling with Fish Roes – Siew Mai (RM5.50). The minced meat and the prawns are blended well and fresh which makes this an up to standard Siew Mai as well.

Minced Squid with Crab Claw Meat (RM6.90). The specialty of this dish is the meat is rolled by minced squid meat. The texture of the meat was slightly chewy as it was made from squid while the crab claw meat was quite big portion and it was delicious.

Signature Steamed Custard Creamy Bun (RM5.50). this is one of my favorites. The outer layer bun was soft and fluffy while the creamy custard was rich and juicy. In my personal point of view, it would be marvelous if the portion of the custard could be more.

Deep Fried Yam Paste with Minced Pork (RM4.50). The very standard “Wu Kok”, the only special about this dish is the outer layer was very crunchy and the texture was so fine.

Deep Fried Pandan Lotus Paste Dumpling (RM4.50). For some who prefers something slightly sweet for dim sum this would be a great choice as the lotus contained pandan fragrance while the aroma of the fried sesame covered the outer layer.

Main Course:
Deep Fried Homemade Bean Curd (RM12.90). This dish combines both the crunchiness and softness for your bite. It has to be served together with their home made special sauce.

Szechuan Aromatic Duck (RM18.90). This is also one of my favorite main dishes. I am a fan of duck meat, and moreover Szechuan duck is quite rare in Penang. The sauce is one of the key ingredients for this great taste. The duck meat needs to be served together with the sauce and egg slices.

Deep Fried Five Spices Calamari (RM13.90). This is something that I haven’t tasted before. This calamaris were marinated with five different spices.

Fried Seafood Emperor Noodle (RM12.90). This noodle is to be served to the Emperor, however the noodle was a bit too dry and the taste was a bit too plain. It is not my cup of tea.

Jingdo Pork Ribs (RM14.90). Nicely prepared pork ribs, however the pepper taste was a bit too strong and it has covered the freshness of the pork ribs.

All in 1 Roasted Meat with Vegetables (RM19.90) – Pun Choi. Another one of my favorites as well. However, this dish was quite inconsistent as we were served with 4 bowls of Pun Choi and each had difference standard of taste. Some was slightly salty while some had a funny taste. It is not easy to standardise this dish. However, if the taste can be closely similar it will be perfecto.

Dessert:
Dessert of the Day (RM3.50). This is definitely out of my taste bud, the coconut milk was not fresh and was cooked using powder base. The taste was very flat without any sourness or slight saltiness. It would be great if some banana or yam are added to it.

The master chefs that run behind the scenes.

Overall, some of the food were good whereas some still require some improvement especially on the dessert. This is to create a more satisfying and memorable ending of a meal.
