Sweet-I, Sungai Dua – Refreshing and Reviving Dessert

“Yeah, you are so sweet.” It sounded so nice and pleasant when someone said this to you. However, when someone told you that “The taste of the food is so sweet”, you would better watch out because “sweetness for now, sickness for later”.

There is a place in town currently selling sweet temptations. The name of the shop is called “Sweet-I”. Although the name of it is so Sweet, actually the taste of the food are not too sweet, which is good for those who are health conscious.

Sweet-I is located at Sungai Dua, Gelugor.  If you know how to go Tesco Extra which is located at Jalan Sungai Dua, look out at the opposite of the main road of Tesco Extra for this sweet temptation shop.

Tapioca Jelly BoboChaCha – RM2.70. The dessert was cooked with sweet potato, yam, carrot and green jelly that made of  pandan leaves juice. The base of the soup was cooked with coconut milk. The taste of this bobo cha cha was very refreshing and the soup was not too sweet. It was very nice and good.

Black sesame soup – RM4.00, the black sesame seed was blended into fine powder and it was then cooked until the base turned starchy. The texture of the soup was so smooth. Although the taste of the soup was nice it was not my cup of tea.

Lily Bulbs, Red Dates Fungus Coralline Algae – RM4.50, all the ingredients were mixed together and double boiled with rock sugar. The soup is good for those that feel heaty and yet do not prefer bitter Chinese herbal tea as their solution.

Sha shen (Glehnia root), red dates, medlar, white fungus and winter melon soup – RM4.50. This soup was good to cool down the body temperature and also refreshing.

Ginger, dates and coralline algae – RM3.50, if you are the one that unable to sleep at night or had just given birth, this soup will be suitable for you as it helps to heat up your body and improve the blood circulation.

Black Glutinous Rice (Bubur Pulut Hitam) – RM2.00, the black glutinous rice was cooked until it became porridge. It was then served together with coconut milk as topping. The porridge was on the sweet side while the coconut milk had a slight salty taste. Hence the taste became balanced with this combination. Furthermore the dessert had been decorated with coconut milk on top.

Green Bean Sago Sweet Potato Soup – RM2.70, the green bean and the sweet potato were cooked until soft. The taste was very nice.

Pumpkin Sago Glutinous Rice in Coconut Milk – RM3.00, comparing pumpkin and green bean sweet potato, I prefer the taste of pumpkin glutinous. However, those with high cholesterol,  glutinous rice is not advisable for you.

The overall picture of most of the desserts and soups available at this shop.

夏枯草桑叶菊花茶 Prunella, Mulberry and Chrysanthemum Tea – RM2.00, this type of herbal tea is specially designed for those with heaty and hot body. 枣仁菊花龙眼茶 Zaoren Chrysanthemum and Longan Tea – RM3.50, is for those that having insomnia or body cold to drink.

Besides those few soups provided above there are also few other soups as below:

Lotus Seeds Gingko Nut Red Bean Soup – RM3.30

Gingko Barley White Fungus Fu-Shu Soup – RM2.50

Kelp Red Bean Cream Soup – RM3.00

Groundnut Cream Soup – RM3.00

Ice Blended Tapioca Jelly BoboChaCha – RM3.00, this is very nice and refreshing, and is one of my favorites.

Special porridge of the Day – RM4.50 (the ingredients used in the porridge varies daily). For those that wanted to eat something other than just dessert and soup, this could be the best option. The porridge ingredients included barley, green bean, carrot, sweet potato, seaweed, mushroom and more ingredients. The porridge had no added artificial flavor, I love this dish.

Overall, most of the desserts and food here are acceptable and the price are also reasonable. All the food are not too sweet and have no MSG added. The only drawback of this place is there is no air conditioning here and there are not many car park available.

  1. WOW, that is a lottttt of desserts ordered, you must have gone in a big group 😉
I used to buy desserts from them too; those with lotus seeds, red dates and snow fungus and sometimes with additional gingko. The fun is you can mix and match.
Yeah, the dessert soups are not too sweet as they are homemade and tasted really nice (not diabetic!)

I know the couple (owner) there too 🙂 They used to sell at a small stall near the Hamna, now they own the shop, but they are really hardworking people 😀
