Penang Best Teow Chew Chendol @ Penang Street

There have been a lot of introduction over the best Teow Chew Chendol in Penang before. How come only Teow Chew chendol that is famous but not Hokkien Chendol or Hainanese Chendol? If anyone is aware of Hainanese Chandol please let me know, I am going to blog about that.

When I was young, I believed what my friend told me about the green color of Chandol was made of algae from the drain. Since then I haven’t been taking Chandol for a long time. I hope that friend of my will feel guilty when he read this post. :)

The Penang famous Teow Chew Chendol that I am referring to is the one located at Lebuh Keng Kwee off Penang Street. The stall is located at the back lane.

Check out the people that dropped by this little stall, it was a never-ending flow. I wonder how much the stall owner is paying for his income tax every year?

Hidden Treasure & Great Foods @ Balik Pulau

For those who want to get away from this small hectic and busy Penang Island, Balik Pulau is an express way to regain and recharge yourself. There are a few ways to get to Balik Pulau. You can use the route from Paya Terubong or from Bukit Jambul. If you have plenty of time to take a longer route with sea side view, you can follow the Teluk Bahang Road. No matter which road you use you will never be lost in Penang. Even if you are lost you don’t have to be panicked as you are still in a small Penang Island.

This photo is at the junction of Paya Terubong to Balik Pulau. There is a Police Station between the terrace houses, so user-friendly. If you are staying beside you will be guaranteed of safety as there won’t have break-in’s or any crime activities.

The scene below showed where we stopped by at the highest level of Balik Pulau with an aerial view of the town.

The big and small islands joining together is known as Tortoise Island to the old folks in Balik Pulau.

Damn ‘potong stim’ (doomed to disappointment), all the scenery around were so nice except for a couple who were hugging and kissing with ‘kelakuan yang tidak senonoh’ (inappropriate behavior) in public. Possibility the conversation as below:

Girl:   “Dear, I feel headache after the winding road.”
Guy:  “Not to be too worry dear, let me cure your headache by giving you a warm hug and kiss.”
Girl: “Don’t be like that dear, later some one like Steven Goh capture our picture and publish to the whole world how?”
Guy: “$%#& that Steven Goh. Ask him to talk to me only after our ’hangat’ (heat) session.”

That was just half way to our destination, the place which we were heading was an orchard located at some additional 15 minutes away. The picture below is our destination.

Fresh hanging buah petai, sure all the aunties will want to pick. As you know the price of these buah petai are so expensive nowadays.

A concrete house beside the buah petai tree where the owner rares sparrows. I am not sure why this building has an ASTRO? Do the birds watch Discovery Channel?

Two guard dogs came to collect parking fees from us.

Aid for China Relief

If you had read about my previous post on I Can’t Help Them All, At Least I Do What I Can to Help is about saving life for the people in Myanmar of cyclone and also earthquake in China, have you done your part yet?

At my place, there are people collecting donation or organizing charities sales for the aiding survivors of China and Myanmar. There are road side concert setup start singing from 7pm until 1pm non stop mainly just for the charity of china earthquake and also free porridge provided with donation collection for the same purpose too.

For StevenGoh.com I myself had donated nearly USD$50 in term of cash and also items to the survivors aid in China.

In London BackgammonMasters Online Blackjack, Poker and Backgammon Board is generously aiding survivors of the earthquake in China. Backgammon has offered to match $5 for every $1 donated from a months worth of tournament buy-ins ranging from $4.50 to $200. Players will participate in backgammon and blackjack tournaments where all of the prize money will go directly to the UNICEF organization whose main focus of attention and assistance is on child victims of the quake.

So many people had done their parts, have you?

Whole Day Event On Wesak Day @ Penang

May 19th is Lord Buddha’s birthday. To all the Buddhists, I would like to wish you all a Happy Wesak Day. For non-Buddhists, wishing all of you a Happy Holiday.

In Penang, the celebration of Wesak day is very grand. I have visited 5 temples and watched the Wesak procession float on that night. I’ve been walking the whole day and busy clicking away with my camera. For those who read this post, you will be enjoying endless scrolls of pictures.

My first stop, the “Tzu Chi”, Penang. Although I am not the member of “Tzu Zhi”, I respect their huge charity commitments to the needy. It is one of the organizations that really reach out to the poor and disabled regardless of their background or races. I’ve seen them at many places during the bad times like Tsunami and landslides.

This is the main entrance of “Tzu Chi”

The balcony at the side wing, allowing people to relax or study.

The surrounding is full of “Zen” and is recharging my “Qi”.

Inside the hall, you will see this crystal structure, was told that this is the Master and the founder of “Tzu Chi”.

The Buddhist scripts are crafted on the bamboos and arranged on the wall.

I Can’t Help Them All, At Least I Do What I Can to Help

There are a lot of tragic happend lately, not about Dr. Tun Mahathir.

I am talking about something even bigger and even more terrifying. Is about the cyclone in Myanmar,

And the earthquake in China.

After watching these pictures, I really hope that I can fly there to save their life, but if I am flying there, who is going to save my car loan and bills? I really appreciate and respect the voluntary workers that helping out at there. Again, for me I can’t do much to help them. I wanted to donate to the Milo can that some organization had setup by the road side, but don’t know whether they are genuine?

Thanks to BB Community that sending me an reminder that telling me I can pay via Paypal. Seen we always earn from pay post via paypal and also do a lot of fund transfers with their service, so far they never fail us. Therefore, I had decided to donate via paypal.

For me I only manage to donate USD10 to the China victims. I really hope that all of us can do something to help both Myanmar and China victims back to their normal life again.

For those that wish to pay via paypal, you can login to paypal website and scroll to the bottom of the page and select either Myanmar Cyclone Victime Help or China Earthquake Relief. If you have the ability, you might also consider helping both.
