L Kitchen is a humble place in town where you can get good porridge, noodle and rice at the same place. L Kitchen in Chinese is known as 李月香. L Kitchen is located at the middle of Lebuh Campbell (also known as Chinatown of Penang).
This place is packed with people especially during the weekends.
Fried Fish Fillet with Crispy Noodle – RM11.80, the fish fillets were battered and deep-fried. They were then served on top of the crispy noodle and covered with starchy gravy which contained egg and vegetables.
The noodle was indeed crispy when served. The deep fried fish fillets tasted very nice while the starchy gravy was packed with egg aroma.
Teow Chew Style Spicy and Sour Soup with Thick Bee Hoon and Grouper Fish Fillet – RM16.50, the soup was prepared with fresh grouper fish slices and also served with tofu cubes, chili, tomato and ginger slices.
The soup was really sourish and the spiciness level of the soup was also very extreme. Even a piece of chili in this soup was enough to “spice up your life”. Everything was great for this soup except that it had a sweet ending which was not really my cup of tea.
Soya Bean with Butterfly Pea Flower – RM4.00, this is one of the signature drinks here. The taste of the soya bean was not too sweet which was great for me and the usage of butterfly pea flower into the drink made it look nice and healthy.
Kaya Butter Toast – RM2.80, this is a typical Malaysian snack. The toasts were slabbed with kaya in one slice and butter in the other slice before slicing into smaller pieces.
For those looking simple snacks, this is one of the considerations.
Overall, the food here was nice and some of the dishes were unique. However, certain dishes had a sweet ending. The parking was limited as well. Most diners took Grab to this area. The price of the food was mostly quite reasonable too.
