Home Cafe, Bayan Baru – A Cafe That Feels Like Home

For those who always work away from home, it is always great to get the taste of home cooking. Home-style cooking usually is not something fancy. Instead, it reminds you the taste of “home”.

For those looking for home-style cooking as well as family-friendly cafes, there is a new cafe in Bayan Baru known as Home Cafe which serves nice home-style cooking.

This is a new cafe which has just started a few weeks ago. However, the place is already crowded with diners.

This place is very spacious. Both adults and kids will find this place a “heaven” as not only the food option is vast for adults and kids to select, parents can also eat with peace of mind as there is a kids playroom in the cafe. The playroom is clean and spacious filled with kitchen sets, educational toys, toy vehicles, blocks and so on.

The owner definitely conceptualized this cafe with kids in mind as there is another kid’s corner at the other end of the cafe. It is filled with some story books and blocks. Unfortunately, there is not enough time to explore further as the food arrived within 10 mins. 🙂

Taste of Mama – RM13.90, the rice was served with pork slices cooked in dark soy sauce and sprinkled with white sesame seeds, and sided with a fried egg with some spring onions.

To me this is not a mama’s cooking but instead a granny’s cooking. This reminded me of my granny’s home cooked dish. It has a basic preparation and marination which is very simple and nothing fancy. The drawback of this dish is the lack of greens in this dish which does not make it a well-balanced meal. Besides that, there is not enough gravy and hence making it too dry to swallow especially for kids. It would be good if it comes with a bowl of soup.

Braised Pork Rice – RM13.90, the pork belly slices were braised in dark and light soy sauce and topped with sesame seeds, braised egg and some greens.

Again, this Taiwanese dish is the comfort food for many especially kids. However, it was also on the dry side without much gravy. Luckily, when we raised our concern to the staff, they were quick to respond and quickly prepared a soup for us within minutes. Thumbs up to the staff on the service and responsiveness.

Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Chop – RM18.90, this is a fusion style chicken chop. The battered chicken thigh was topped with golden salted egg yolk and sided with salad, coleslaw, fries and greens.

This dish is dedicated to salted egg lovers. Compared to the previous dishes, this seems to be a more “balanced”meal with some greens. The salted egg gravy paired very well with the battered chicken. It was a unique and tasty dish.

Overall, this place is dedicated to both kids and adults alike. There are plenty of parking slots surrounding this cafe. The price of the food here was slightly on the high side. The menu was not complete yet as some of the food were unavailable. However, the service was good as the staff was quick to respond to our request. Additionally, the play area for kids is another bonus point for families with young kids.
