No air-conditioners, no fancy furniture, only nice food is available here. This is the slogan of Eng Loh Kopitiam that has been operating here since the 18th century.
Eng Loh is a coffee shop that sells variety of Penang food. From wantan noodle to char koay teow, you name it and you get it here.
The original signboard of Eng Loh is still hanging at the main entrance.
To avoid the crowd, I would suggest that you head to Eng Loh Kopitiam during brunch hours.
Eng Loh Kopitiam sells breakfast items from Cheese Onion Omelette to Mashed Potato.
Among all the dishes listed above, what attracted me were the sets below – the half-boiled egg on toast. It is available in Set A and Set B.
- Set A – 2 half-boiled eggs & toast bread set (RM3.20)
- Set B – 2 half-boiled eggs & toast bread + Coffee O/ Tea O Set (RM4.00)
Usually in most coffee shops the half-boiled eggs will be served separately from toasts. For Eng Loh, the eggs will be served on top of the toasts. The taste of the eggs and toasts is similar to the usual egg and toasts elsewhere. However, what makes it different from the rest is the presentation and serving method.
Overall, there are many varieties of Penang street food here at Eng Loh Kopitiam. The food is simple and affordable. The only drawback is again the limited parking space surrounding this Coffee Shop.
