Young Heart Restaurant at Pulau Tikus is still one of the placse in town that serves very healthy yet delicious food. Even until now, the quality and taste of the food still maintains its standard.

For those who missed out the previous post of mine at Young Heart, please click on the link to recall them. This round of review that was recently held was not on the main dishes like before. In fact, it was more on the new promotion sets. Thanks to Ann, the owner of this restaurant and also Jason from Gourmet Garden for the invited review.

Before the meal was served, the desk had been prepared with tri-seasoning for the food. There were the chili oil, fried onion and also vinegar with ginger slices.

The drinks which were served (from left to right):

Chrysanthemum Tea

The first promotion, is the set value promotion. The new all day long super value packages, with 15 over specially selected dishes (meat, seafood & vegetables) to choose from. This set includes:

A Plate of Green, usually the green refers to the vegetable of the day. Today we had been served with stir fried mix veggie of Chinese Cabbage, Lettuce and Carrot Slices. It was a simple but delightful healthy green dish.

Handmade Noodle, the noodles were handmade and mixed with some sesame oil and fried onions. It was so simple yet nice.

Soup of the day, for this round the soup was beet root. It was very tasty and healthy.

Package For Four

Deep Fried Garlic Prawn, they were slightly salty and rich.

Stewed Chestnut Chicken, deliciously marinated chicken stewed with chestnut and garnished with spring onions and lettuce. Yummy.

Stir Fried Winged Bean with Sambal Balacan, green and nutritious. The winged beans were stir fried with sambal balacan. It tasted spicy and slightly salty from the sambal balacan. I just love it.

Stir Fried Broccoli with Mixed Mushrooms, another great mixture of stir fried vegetable. The ingredients of this dish include 2 types of mushrooms, broccoli and some carrots.

Seafood Fried Noodle, mixed with delicious seafood and sauce.

Twin Cauli with Bailing Mushroom in Special Sauce, bailing mushroom tasted like abalone, cooked together with broccoli, carrot, cauliflower and dried scallop in tasty starch. It was a very pleasant dish.

Home Made Young Heart Steamed Tofu, the texture of tofu tasted like egg which was soft and smooth. Cooked with high grade soy sauce and garnished with carrot slices and chives. Another one of my favorite dishes.

Chicken with Dry Sea Product, deliciously marinated chicken cooked with Chinese Nostoc and dried scallops. The chicken was juicy and luscious.

Balacan Roast Pork, the tempting and delicious roast pork were deep fried together with balacan. I feel sinful when taking this dish, due to the fatness and cholesterol. However, I still couldn’t stop taking it as it was so tempting and tasty.

Fiery Hot Noodle, the hand made noodle was cooked with anchovies and hot chili oil, with minced meat and a poached egg. The taste was spicy and hot. No wonder it was named as fiery hot noodle.

Barbican Non-Alcahol Beer, for those that love beer and still not allowed to take alcohol, these beers are specially made for you as they taste like beer yet with no alcohol content. They come in peach flavour.

(Click on the picture to enlarge)

Overall, the taste of food at Young Heart is still up to par from my first post until now and the concept of this restaurant is still the same which is focusing on healthy and tasty food. It is a place to be for families.

I am unable to recall how many Japanese Restaurants in Penang that I had blogged before. However, there is a restaurant that serves localised taste of Japanese food. The name of this restaurant is called “Inaka”.

Inaka restaurant was once located at Autocity, Prai before they moved to Pulau Tikus. To get to this place, you need to travel to downtown of Penang and using Burma Road that heading to Pulau Tikus. Once you have passed Pakma Coffee Shop on your right and you will soon see EON bank is on your right. Keep driving further and you will see a row of shop houses on your left and one of the shops is known as “The Place, 007″, Inaka restaurant is just a few doors away.

The ambiance here is cozy and it really has the feel of a Japanese restaurant.

The giant pair chopsticks is one of the symbolic decorations of this restaurant.

Sakae – RM15, Inaka serves one of the best sakae in town. The price is reasonable and the sakae was served warm with the aroma of cherry blossom and also strong liquor taste.

If you are not a fan of sakae, you can always opt for their green tea. It is free with unlimited flow.

Teppan Salmon – RM18.90, the salmon fillets were sliced and grilled. Again the sauce was sweet and it tasted similar to “samurai burger”. It was served with a lot of bean sprouts. The meat of the salmon was well prepared. However, the gravy was slightly sweet and is definitely not for the non-sweet lovers. Along with the set, there were Chawanmushi, Japanese rice, miso soup, salad and fruits as dessert.

Kaarage Chanpon (RM16.90 per set) – The big bowl of seafood ramen came with prawn, squid, bean sprouts, black fungus and lots of mixed veggie. The taste of the soup is thick and has a very strong aroma of seafood. It taste slightly sweet. For those that dislike sweet dishes, this is the dish that should be avoided.

Scallop – It was served together with Kaarage Chanpon set. The restaurant usesd fresh scallops and covered with cheesy coating and baked them. The taste is divine.

Teriyaki Chicken Bento (RM16.00 per set)– The taste of the teriyaki set here was no different than any other teriyaki in Penang. Even the price was average but worth the money.

Inaka Bento A – RM23.90, this grilled salmon bento set has been cooked in shoyu “Japanese soya sauce”. The taste was delicious, complementary to the dish were Japanese rice, chawamushi, salad, bean curd and fruits.

Chawanmushi – the steam egg was so soft and smooth, it melted in your mouth. It was actually complementary to all bento sets.

Chirashizushi – RM28, literally it is called the scattered sushi. It is a bowl of sushi rice with the seafood ingredients placed or scatter on the top verses rolled like tradition sushi. There are prawns, scallops, sashimi and a lot of mixed veggie.

Inaka Bento D – RM28.90, This set came with tempura, it was nicely fried and crunchy. The prawns were fresh and delicious.

Overall, the food here has been customised to suit local taste buds. For those who are expecting a more traditional and authentic type, Inaka might not the suitable place for you. As for the ambiance, this is a great place for relaxing.

I passed by this place many times but I still didn’t realize there is this new shop sitting right there at Burmah Road. This place serves some unique dishes which are not easily found elsewhere in Penang.

To go to this place, if you are driving via Burmah Road the Union Primary School will be on your left. The shop that sells the best wine bee hoon in town is just a few doors ahead.

The name of the stall is called Mega 1 Cafe. The entrance of this place is a bit narrow, you have to be very observant to notice this shop.

Inside of the cafe there were 6 to 7 tables waiting to be served.

Milky wine soup with some fish balls, fish fillets and prawns. The specialty of this soup is it has been boiled for 9 continuous hours with the secret fish bone recipe and collocated with wine and fresh milk.

Wine Soup with Seafood Tofu – RM15.00, this set doesn’t come with bee hoon or rice, you will need to place an order for it.

The soup which was mixed and cooked together with seafood and fish ball was sweeter compared to just plain fish fillet. The aroma of the wine made the soup smell good and tempting.

Wine Bee Hoon Soup with Fish Fillet – RM6.80. As mentioned, the taste of this soup was not as good as the previous one. Could be due to lack of sweetness from the prawns.

Wine Bee Hoon Soup with Chicken Ball – RM4.20, again this wine soup taste was not as sweet as the first one.

Variety of fruit juices are available here with an average of RM2.80 per glass.

Overall, the main dish here is the wine bee hoon and they are delicious although the price is slightly on the higher side. The side dishes like otak otak (RM5.00) and shrimp rolls (RM6.00) are very expensive and the taste was not up to par. Another disadvantage of this place is it is very hard to find a place to stop the car or even parking.

(Latest Update: This Place Had Stopped Operation on (12/01/10) Due to Some Business Issue.)

Looking for a place which serves more than just Penang food and which is less crowded yet with plentiful of parking space? A place which is romantic enough to spend some quality time with your special ones and where the food is great and price is affordable?

It is not easy to find such place with all the requirement above. However, this time I managed to discover this place which is Brown House. The location of Brown House is very easy to be spotted. It is located just opposite 1-stop Midlands Park Complex in Pulau Tikus.

The building is a big mansion with huge parking space.

Ground floor, the common dining area which is fully air-conditioned.

First floor, with private rooms as well as open-space dining area.

Main Courses:

Pork Chop – RM17.90, this is one of my favorites. Although it may have the plain Jane look, but the taste was definitely not plain. The pork chop was marinated with lemon grass and spices. It was than deep-fried and served with fries and salad. The crust was very crunchy while the meat was very soft and juicy. Therefore, never judge a book by its cover.

Kampong Nasi Lemak – RM7.20, other than the “plain look” pork chop, Kampong Nasi Lemak is also one of the tasty dishes. The curry chicken had a very strong curry aroma, while the level of spiciness was not too over whelming. It was a great combination with the coconut milk rice (nasi lemak), anchovies (ikan bilis), half boiled egg, fried peanut and spicy condiment (sambal).

Hanoi Roll (5 pcs) – RM11.90, These are the deep-fried spring rolls stuffed with meat. It went well with the chili sauce provided. It was a nice and delightful starter.

Puff Pastry Chicken Stew – RM12.90, the best part was the hot and crunchy pastry, when dipped into the soup it became semi-crunchy. The taste of the soup was not as thick and rich as the usual chicken mushroom soup. It was a fusion style of soup and definitely a pleasant starter.

PHO Beef – RM10.90. Compared to puff pastry chicken stew, I still prefer the chicken stew. Although this is an authentic Vietnamese food with tasty beef slices.

Braised Pork Ribs with Nuts – RM10.90. The pork ribs were braised until the meat turned soft. It had a nice aroma from the nut which were boiled together with the ribs. Still puff pastry chicken stew is my favourite.

Ee Chee Lou Fun – RM10.90, exclusively Hong Kong style, rice pagoda on shark’s fin soup. The shark’s fin soup was the usual one that we tried had at any Chinese restaurants while the rice was fragrant rice. There is a slight drawback on the shark’s fin as it was slightly overcooked and the texture became too soft without the bouncy “Q” feeling.

Baked Macaroni Cheese – RM12.90. Nicely baked macaroni and minced meat, it mixed really well with the paste. However, if you are a cheese lover you may not enjoy the mild cheese slices used on this dish.

Starters:

Potato Skin – RM11.90, the potato filling was removed and potato skin was used to stuff in minced meat with potato paste and topped with cheese. The drawback is also same as the baked macaroni cheese - the misuse of cheese type.

Arabian Toast – RM3.60, the unique factor was on the toast itself while the kaya and butter was just the usual stuff. The toast was crunchy and with some sweetness on the toast itself.

Potato Wedges with Paprika – RM6.90, The potato wedges were dipped with paprika powder which tasted like curry powder, then topped with mayonnaise. The taste is acceptable as starter.

Hot and Spicy Chicken Wing – RM11.90, this hot and spicy chicken wing has the taste of KFC, very suitable for kids who love crunchy and spicy chicken.

Honey Chicken Wings – RM11.90. For kids that don’t enjoy spicy food, honey chicken wings is another option.

Drinks:

Curacao – RM7.20, one of the very unique drinks. The color of the drink was blue with some lemon slices. The taste was surprisingly good as I thought all the while drinks with such color will have the taste of detergent. But not for this one.

Full Moon – RM7.20, it looked like the moon was on top of the white cloud. This ice blended drink is to wake someone up when he feels sleepy. It was sweet and sour. It is also a preferred drink for ladies who care about their diet.

Other varieties of drinks are also available as below:

Ice Honey Lemon – RM3.60

Ice Lemon Tea – RM3.60

Ice Jasmine Tea – RM3.90

Ice Traditional Coffee with Milk – RM3.30

Ice Milk Tea – RM3.30

Strawberry love – RM7.20

Overall, this is a very new and uncrowded place. For those who always travel outside and need a place for shelter or internet access, this is the place for you. Certain food are very good and the price range with such ambience is acceptable.

Laksa, one of the top food to be hunted if you are in Penang. There are a lot of places in Penang which have great laksa. These include Balik Pulau Laksa and Air Itam Laksa. However, you need to take the hassle to drive through the winding road or even pack with tourists for the bowl of laksa.

If you are at the town area and hoping to avoid these 2 tourist-packed places, a good suggestion will be at Taman Emas Coffee Shop at Gottlieb Road, Pulau Tikus. This coffee shop is located at the Gottlieb Road, opposite Penang Chinese Girl High School.

The stall of Laksa is just in front of the coffee shop.

The Asam Laksa is the typical Penang Laksa (RM2.50) which is spicy, sour and appetising. The soup base has been cooked with slices of fish and curry flower. The side ingredients include cucumber, pineapple and also mint leaves. The thick dark shrimp paste is placed on the spoon to thicken the flavour.

Other than laksa, this stall also sells side dishes of fried poh piah chee (deep-fried spring rolls) and chai koay (vege “kuih”). Usually these side dishes are selling fast, by 3:00pm they will be all sold off. There is another way of eating these poh piah chee, that is to place them in the laksa soup and the poh piah chee will absorb the soup and will become slightly soft instead of too oily and crunchy. It is a new type of fusion dish.

Besides laksa, there is also curry mee at this coffee shop. The curry mee is the traditional type.

The curry mee is cooked with coconut milk, curry, bean sprouts, “Tau Pok” (fried brown beancurd), frozen pork blood and shrimp. The small bowl of curry mee – RM2.80 and large RM3.30. Anyway, in my own opinion, the soup was slightly too salty. It is not highly recommended for high blood pressure person.

Other than the curry mee and laksa, there is also a stall selling char koay teow. Small plate of char koay teow – RM3.50 and the large – RM4.00.

The ingredients of this plate of char koay teow are koay teow, bean sprouts, cockles (siput), chives, egg, chinese sausages and prawn. This char koay teow is up to standard with the usual requirement. However the chili was slightly too overwhelming and also another drawback is the attitude of the stall owner was a bit boosted as when I went to order, he didn’t acknowledge my order. He was just staring at his handphone like nothing was happening.

Overall, the laksa here is up to standard and the service is good, if you don’t want to drive all the way to Balik Pulau or get cramped with tourists at Air Itam, then this is the most suitable place for you.

If I were to tell you to dine at old folks’ home, you would probably think that I am nuts. This was the first feeling when my friend asked me the same thing. But I was told that the dishes were quite nice. It was kinda cruel for a normal and healthy person to be served by senior citizens. The concept should be the other way round.

The location of this place is kind of secluded from the town area. To get to this place it will be easier to use Gottlieb Road. If you come from Penang Bridge direction you should see Penang Chinese Girls’ High School on you left and GoodAll Cafe on your right, then you are on the right place. Pull your signal to your right at the junction just beside the GoodAll Cafe and you will be at Jalan D.S. Ramanathan (Scott Road).

P/S: This place is closing down and moving to another place very soon. For those that haven’t tried this out, you have to make your move fast.

Moving further on your right hand side there will be a big football field, keep moving and slow down your vehicle and you will see the signboard written as ”Persatuan Rakyat Berida P.Pinang”. Turn right into it and you have arrived at Senior Citizen’s Club.

You have to be very observant in order not to miss the signboard as it is almost hidden by the plants and trees.

The old bungalow which is the home for the old folks. As we walked into the cafeteria we were greeted by many old folks. At that point of time I still couldn’t relate old folk’s home and good food together.

Moving to the back of the bungalow you will see a walk way with rows of table, which some of the customers had started their feast while some were still waiting.

There is even a small hut just beside the walk way which can cater for another 8 to 10 tables.

Even the cat was waiting for his food on the field.

For starters you can always try out this Roti Babi (Roti Ayam) – RM3.80. The name of this dish is due to the original ingredient used was pork but now they have substituted with chicken instead.

The main ingredients were chicken, crab meat and mixed bangkuang. These ingredients were stuffed inside the bread and were later dipped in beaten eggs and flour mixture before going into the deep-fry wok.

The taste was crunchy with its succulent ingredients. It is always delicious to go with the Lea & Perrins sauce provided alongwith this dish.

Mee Sua Tau – RM5.00(S), RM10.00(M), RM15.00(L), a must-try when visiting this place. This dish was cooked with mee sua, chicken pieces, crab meat, eggs and mushrooms. The taste and texture was like shark’s fin soup but without the shark’s fin which is more humanity and wildlife-friendly. It tasted great when served together with black vinegar.

Fried Tang Hoon – RM3.80(S), RM9.00(M), RM12.00(L), another signature dish here. It was cooked with chicken, prawns, eggs and vegetables. The tang hoon was fried until with pan-fry aroma. Not too dry and very delicious indeed.

Chicken Chop – RM7.50 per serving, this is the only size available instead of a choice of S, M or L.

However, to me this is an L. The chicken chop was in full size and it was juicy and fresh served in oriental-style sauce. Most people will come here for their western food especially this oriental-style Chicken Chop. You should not miss this which is a favourite among the crowd.

Orange Juice – RM1.80 (Hot), RM1.80 (Cold). Fresh orange juice to chill your throat after your heavy meal.

Barley - RM1.20 (Hot), RM1.20 (Cold), for those who are not a fan of orange juice, barley water is a good option. It is cooked in an authentic manner with the real barleys instead of using barley powder. You can still see the barleys at the bottom of the glass.

Nutmeg – RM1.20 (Hot), RM1.30 (Cold). The cooked nutmeg drink is a healthy and refreshing drink.

The other available meals which are also their signature dishes are listed as below:

Fish and Chips – RM8.00
Roast Chicken – (1/4) RM8.00 (1/2) RM15.00 (1) RM30.00
Chicken Inche Kabin – RM37.00
Preorder 1 day before, minimum 1 chicken.

After this meal, it was not that “cruel” after all. We were served by middle-aged ladies and not old folks from the home. Those who run this eatery is actually the food caterer of the association.

For a relaxing and out-of-town feel, this is the place that you must visit. As the food caterer is moving out from this association soon, it is even more crucial to visit this place before it is too late.

It has been a while since I visited Young Heart Restaurant. My last visit was few months back and now we were honoured to be invited again for a treat and I will also be giving my readers FREE discount voucher. This voucher is in the middle of this post, you will need to finish this article in order to get that. Thanks to Miss. Kee the owner of Young Heart Restaurant for the arrangement.

As highlighted on my previous post, this place serves healthy food at a quiet and peaceful ambience. In fact, to prepare healthy food while still maintains the tastiness is not easy. For those who are concerned about their health and diet, this is the place to be. According to Miss Kee, every dish, dessert and drinks prepared at Young Heart has not been added with any single white sugar and MSG. All the dishes are also low in calories and salt.

After a day of rush, cool down your body and soul with the (M15) 雙花蘋果茶 Rosehip, Hibiscus, Green Apple – Natural Flower Tea (RM9.50). This tea is freshly custom-made to keep the freshness and also the aroma of the tea.

After the refreshing natural flower tea, you can also have a cup of (P08) 人參烏龍茶 Ginseng Oolong Tea (RM15.00). This drink will boost up your energy and endure you to go further for the main course and desserts.

The ingredients that are used to mix for the natural flower tea.

After a sip of refreshment tea, we can start the meal set with (C01) 贴心滋补靚湯 Soup of the Day (Lotus Roots & Peanuts Soup – M-RM6.00 / L-RM9.00). Soup of the day is like the box of chocolate, you will never know what do they serve for today’s soup. The reason the owner is making the soup a surprise is that each of the ingredients that are used to cook this soup are fresh therefore the items are sorted out daily.

Fresh peanuts from Ipoh which have not been baked and are part of the lotus soup ingredients.

These are the different sizes of the soup. The one behind is actually the big bowl while the one in front with the iron spoon is the medium-sized bowl.

(D23) 蝦仁炸餃 Deep Fried Prawn Dumpling 4pcs (RM6.00). This dumpling is very special, it actually used fresh prawns, water chesnuts and some flour as filling. They were smooth and delicious.

The dumpling goes well with the custom mixed chili sauce.

(F01) 爱心金瓜炒饭 Hearty Pumpkin Fried Rice (RM7.80). This is a specially designed heart-shaped fried rice and couples may love this. The fried rice had a strong pan-fried smell and the main ingredient on the rice was pumpkin. Other than that it also came with 2 pieces of chicken wings and a small plate of fried vegetables. Again for the type of vege it very depends of the availability of the market. For those couple who feel the heart shaped fried rice are too nice to be eaten, you can always make it to another shape first, example cow or chicken.

Next to come is (C13G)龙须菜炒燒鴨肉 Stir Fry Choyote Leafs with Roast Duck Meat (M-RM5.00+ RM4.00) (L-RM8.00 + RM4.00), Choyote fruit is also known as (佛手) and is a well known melon among the locals. I prefer this dish to be stir-fried alone rather than adding the roast duck slices as it was too overwhelming.

For those who scrolled directly down to my post thinking that the free voucher will be there, sorry that was not my style. For those who read patiently until here, thanks for the support and please keep reading.

You can click on the voucher below to enlarge it and print it out. Bring this voucher along and show it to the cashier when you pay.

(F11) 3+1杯雞麵 3+1 Cup Chicken Noodle (RM7.80+RM1.00). The common 3 cup chicken that we usually tried in other restaurants is cooked in soy sauce, Chinese wine and sesame oil. However, Miss Kee has added her own recipe by adding 1 more cup with is the Bird’s eye chili sause (chili padi sauce). The taste is excitingly delicious, not too spicy but is very exciting.

(F02) 莲藕腊肠炒饭 Lotus Root & Chinese Sausage Fried Rice (RM8.80). As usual the rice had the strong pan-fried smell. The difference is instead of cabbage, beans and prawn you can see from the usual fried rice, this was served with Chinese sausages and lotus root, which was healthier and special.

(C42) 豉油王煎三文魚頭 Pan Fried Salmon Head (RM15.00), there is nothing much special about this dish, as most of us already know the taste of salmon fish. The only thing that I would want to emphasise is the meat of the fish was very fresh. The owner bought this fish fresh from the wet market rather than from the hypermarket’s freezers.

(C25) 梅菜雞 Pickled Cabbage Stuff Chicken (Whole Chicken-RM28.00). This dish was very special where the recipe is a mixture of 2 different types of pickled cabbage, the salted one and also the sweet one. Both pickled cabbage was stuffed into the chicken and marinated with their homemade secret gravy. It was succulent and delicious. The only drawback is that the sweet pickled cabbage tasted slightly too sweet. For those who plan to order this dish, you will need to call in one day ahead to pre-book as they need to buy the fresh chicken from the wet market.

(C25) 狗仔鸭 Braised Duck with Special Bean Paste (Half-RM20.00 / Whole-RM38.00). The Chinese name of this dish is known as Doggie Duck. The reason of this name to be so is the ingredients used to cook this duck was used to cook dog meat in the olden days. After the law has been enforced not to simply kill dogs, duck meat is used as a substitute. Anyway, this is not my cup of tea, partially due to the food name is related dogs where I am a dog lover and secondly I find the ingredient slightly similar to the 3 cups chicken.

(C34) 炭煮猪手醋 Braised Sweet & Sour Black Trotter (M-RM9.00 / L-RM16.00). Nicely braised trotter which was soft. It made me think of my mum’s cooking as one of my mum’s expertise is braised sweet and sour black trotter.

(L03) 花香馬蹄糕 Old School Pan Fried Water Chestnut Cake – 4pcs (RM5.00). This really gave me the classic taste, as the ingredients were cooked with Osmanthus and water chestnut. They actually made it into to jelly form and pan-fried it. The aroma was great while the taste was smooth. It actually blended well with a drip of lemon juice.

(R35) 蜂蜜檸檬海椰 Honey Lemon Sea Coconut (RM6.00). It was a well-mixed drink. I personally like this drink as the mixture of lemon with honey and sea coconut really makes the taste fermented. It is like drinking alcohol which doesn’t contain alcohol.

(Q07)黃金豆漿 Pumpkin, Soya Bean Milk (RM6.00). Rich and tasty drink, for those who are on diet and plan to skip your meal, you can any order this any time to make your day as a glass of this will make you full for half of the day.

(Q09) 無間道 Banana, Black Sesame, Soya Bean Milk (RM6.80). Similar to pumpkin soya bean, the name is called 無間道 due to it is grey in colour and it is like in between the good and the bad, the white and the black.

(R24) 香草綜合莓果 Mixed Berry Vanilla – Ice Blended (RM6.00). It has a kinda very strong mixed berry taste. I am not very fancy about this as it makes me feel like drinking cough syrup.

(L01) 芒果花園 Mango Puree & Sago Pudding – Dessert (RM4.50). One of the desserts for those with diabetes and high cholesterol. This dessert has not been added with even a pinch of sugar. The sweetness of this dessert is from the mango and also from the dragon fruit itself. I love this dessert a lot.

Overall, the food and ambience are very delightful. For those that concern about their health and diet, this is the place that you don’t want to miss.

There are many stalls selling duck rice around Penang. Anyhow there is one stall that prepares nice Hongkie style duck rice and noodle which is located at Hup Kee restaurant.

The name of this stall is called “How Ji” Roaster Rice Noodle stall. It was there for nearly a decade. I remember 7 years ago I have once tried out their roast duck rice when I was still in college and now the stall is still around and is standing strong. There must be some that keep them going for so long.

The owner Mr. Loh is a very friendly and polite person. I remember this stall is very famous with yam duck rice. However, this time I am not here for the yam or the rice as I was introduced by my customer that “Hou Ji” has something even better to offer.

The specialty is the wan tan noodle with extra duck and char siew (BBQ pork). At first I was surprised and not certain about the recommendation as this is not the usual combination that we normally had. This doubt disappeared as soon as the noodle entered my mouth. The noodle is thinner and smaller in size compared to the usual noodle that is served in duck noodle. It is so fine that it does not require much chewing and now I understand what it means by Cantonese, Hokkien, Hakka, Teochew even Hong Kong styles of Wan Tan Mee that was mentioned at Criz Food’s Agogo Wan Than Mee post. The noodle that they serve at this stall is the Hong Kong style wan tan mee

For the duck meat hunter, the roast duck at this stall is a delicious treat. I love the crunchiness of the duck skin and also the soft and juicy bite of the meat. Adding on to the combination is some BBQ pork which is complementary to the noodle and is an excellent delight.

A large plate of roast duck, BBQ pork and extra veggie noodle cost RM6 which is very reasonable for a big eater.
