There are many suggestions on where to get the best Mee Goreng and Mee Rebus in Penang. Some said at Bangkok Lane, while some even said at Esplanade. In fact, besides those places there is another place recommended by many Penangites.

The mentioned stall is located at Tanjung Bungah. This place is slightly hidden from the main road. If you are driving via Jalan Tanjung Bungah to Batu Ferringhi, you will sure bypass Jalan Lumbah Permai on your left and you will see Maybank situated in one of the shoplots. Keep driving straight along Jalan Tanjung Bungah until you reach Jalan Chan Siew Teong on your left. Turn into Jalan Chan Siew Teong and you should see a coffee shop called Kwong Ban Lee on the far end of the shop houses. Just next to the coffee shop is Pasar Mini Tedjen. The stall that sells Mee Goreng and Mee Rebus is just in front of the coffee shop.

Barkath is one of the few stalls in the coffee shop. Barkath has been operating the stall for 10 years.

Barkath Stall was initially located at Jalan Tanjong Bungah and has just moved to this coffee shop 6 months ago.

Barkath Stall is not only selling Mee Goreng and Mee Rebus, but also pasembur, roti canai, murtabak, tosai and capati.

Mee Goreng/ Mee Rebus, Regular – RM3.50

Mee Goreng/ Mee Rebus, Large – RM6.00

Mee Sotong, Regular – RM6.00

Mee Goreng, Regular – RM3.50. The mee goreng was stir-fried in semi-dried style, topped with fried onions, bean sprouts, chili slices, spring onions, squids, deep fried flour cakes and a slice of lime.

The texture of the noodle was very springy and the taste of the noodle was just as excellent. It was neither too sweet nor salty. The pan fried aroma was very tempting. The spiciness level was just nice and acceptable. This is in fact one of the best Mee Goreng in Penang.

Mee Rebus, Regular – RM3.50. As for mee rebus, it was cooked with 1 boiled egg, squids, deep fried flour cakes, bean sprouts, chili slices, spring onions and a slice of lime.

The mee rebus was not as tasty as the mee goreng. The gravy was thick and not too spicy. Overall, the mee rebus is considered acceptable. I still prefer the mee goreng.

Overall, the taste of mee goreng here was excellent whereas the mee rebus was acceptable. The price was inexpensive and the portion given was generous too. There are a lot of parking lots just around the shop houses. The only drawback is this place is very hot during noon and afternoon.

Do you love dishes cooked in claypot? Have you ever tried claypot rice before? Claypot cooking is a technique of cooking food in an unglazed claypot which has been soaked in water so as to release steam during the cooking process. Cooking with claypot has been stretching back at least to ancient Roman times, and is commonly used in several cuisines in Africa, Europe and Southeast and East Asia.

This round of introduction, we will be heading to the place that will serve most of the food in claypot. This place has been up and running for quite sometime. However the owner of this shop has changed, and so do the chefs and workers. This place is called Claypot Restaurant.

It is not hard to locate this place. If you know how to drive to hillside of Tanjung Bungah where 7-11 hillside Tanjung Bungah is located, the main road next to it is called Jalan Sungai Kelian. Just turn into that road and along the road you will see Huat Heng Cafe on your right. Keep driving for another 50 meters and Claypot Restaurant is just down the road.

There are both indoor and outdoor dining areas that cater for smokers and non-smokers. This place can cater up to 15 tables.

Meat Dishes are as below:

Claypot Salted Fish Chicken

Claypot Herbal Chicken

Claypot Ginger Chicken

Claypot Vinegar Pork

Claypot Ginger Beef

Claypot Herbal Chicken - RM10.00. The chicken meat was cooked together with dried wolfberries, red dates, dang gui and ginseng root. This dish was prepared in traditional Chinese Tonic Soup.

The soup tasted a bit bitter as the ginseng roots had been added to the cooking. However during the stewing process the natural sweetness of the red dates and wolfberries also flowed into the soup. Very delicious indeed. For those whose blood pressure are low or having insomnia, this soup is a great solution as the ginseng will improve blood circulation and also tonifying the heartbeat.

Claypot Ginger Beef - RM9.00. The beef slices were slowly braised with ginger slices and finished with some spring onion.

The tenderness of the beef slices was so soft after braised for long hours. The gravy was not too salty and it is a great dish to go with rice.

Claypot Ginger Chicken - RM8.00, the chicken cubes were braised with chopped garlic, dried chilies, and ginger slices. The gravy was also mixed with seasoned bean paste that made the aroma thicker.

This is a hot and spicy dish with strong aroma. This is my favorite dish. For those who enjoy eating hot and spicy food, you will definitely love this dish.

Claypot Salted Fish Chicken - RM8.00. The chicken was cut into cubes and then marinated and stewed. After sometime it was then cooked together with salted fish and mushroom slices.

The scent of the salted fish was very nice and blended in very well with the chicken cubes.

Claypot Vinegar Pork - RM8.00. The pork slices were braised with black vinegar. The slices of ginger enhanced the aroma of the dish. It was cooked until the gravy became thick and compact.

The pork trotter cuts used were soft due to its amount of fat which might not be suitable to those health-conscious diners. This particular dish is very suitable for pregnant ladies or those with low blood pressure.

Vegetable Dishes are as below:

Claypot Brinjal with Minced Pork

Claypot Spinach Soup with Centry Eggs

Stir Fried Chinese Chive Flower Buds with Shredded Meat

Stir Fried Long Beans with Prawns

Sambal & Stir Fried ‘Dou Miao’ (Snow Pea Shoots)

Stir Fried ‘Dou Miao’ (Snow Pea Shoots) - RM8.00. The snow peas shoot were stir fried with chopped garlic and some seasoning sauce.

It was a very simple yet tasty dish. It was not salty and you can still feel the freshness of the vegetable. I am a veggie lover, therefore I love this dish a lot.

Claypot Spinach Soup with Century Eggs - RM8.00. The spinach was cooked with century eggs and anchovies as soup stock. The dish was cooked in claypot till rich in flavour.

This soup was nice but it still lacks some touch of salted duck egg and some dried shrimps. I would personally feel that this soup will be more perfect if added these 2 items.

Stir Fried Long Beans with Prawns and Sambal - RM10.00. The long beans were chopped into certain length and cooked with sambal and fresh prawns.

The pan-fried aroma was very nice for this dish. The long beans were not over cooked while the prawns were fresh. It was a delicious dish.

Claypot Brinjal with Minced Pork - RM8.00. The sliced brinjal (eggplant) were stir-fried with sautéed minced meat. It was then garnished with some slices of spring onion.

The brinjal (eggplant) still managed to maintain its juiciness and were not overcooked while the sautéed minced meat was not too salty. It was a great combination.

Stir Fried Chinese Chive Flower Buds with Shredded Meat - RM11.00. The chives were sliced into certain length and pan-fried with shredded meat and fresh prawns.

There is a myth that by consuming Chinese Chives it will enhance “man’s power” and will be more durable. I am not too sure about that. The taste was all right with the fragrance coming from the sautéed chopped garlic but the vegetables were a bit too fibrous for my consumption. They should have chosen less matured ones with more flowers for this dish.

Drinks list as below:

Loh Han Guo with Chrysanthemum

Shan Cha with Appril

White Nutmeg Juice

The dining arrangement that catered for around 10 pax with all the selected dishes above.

Overall, the taste of the food here is in acceptable range. The price of the food here is reasonable too and the ambiance here is cozy and family-friendly. The drawback here is there are limited car parks available and no private rooms provided.

Looking for a place for a cup of coffee and some desserts to relax during tea time? There is a new place out of town that you can set your mind free for a while before you continue your hectic life again. The name of this shop is called Full Of Beans.

It is very easy to locate Full Of Beans. This shop is on the first floor and on the left after the main entrance of Straits Quay. Once you reached the first floor, walk towards the end on the left and you will see this shop.

If you are not sure whether you are on the right path to the shop, one of the easiest ways is to follow your sense to the coffee aroma. As you get nearer to the shop, the aroma of coffee also becomes stronger.

All the coffee you ordered will be freshly brewed. You can see the barristers were busying preparing the coffee.

One of the famous brews is Siphon or Syphon coffee. In brief Syphon coffee is also known as Vacuum Coffee. With this process the coffee is prepared with a vacuum coffee brewer (Vac Pot). The water is sucked through the vacuum pot to the top of the container with coffee powder in there, and it is left to cool down. Once it is totally cooled down the liquid that flow down to the pot again will be a nice and tasty coffee.

Besides the siphon method, there is also another unusual way of processing the coffee which is called Iced Drip Coffee or also known as cold brew coffee. It is done by using a pot of water above a bin of coffee grounds and filter, the water will then slowly drip through the coffee grounds at a rate of about two drips per second. This seeps through the coffee and filter, eventually spinning down the condensation tubes and into a waiting beaker. This produces concentrated solution that is stored in the fridge for about 2 days. The coffee is served cold and the taste is a bit sourish as the coffee itself has been fermented.

The price of the coffee as below listed:

Brazil Santos – RM9.50

Mandheling – RM9.50

Mocha – RM9.50

Ice Drip Coffee – RM15.oo

The coffee list above is arranged in accordance to the coffee thickness, from the mildest on top to the thickest at the bottom. If you are a beginner, you should go for Brazil Santos. However, if you want thicker taste and stronger aroma Mandheling is the one for you. The strongest of all would be Mocha. As Ice Drip Coffee, the category is different from the above as this is served cold while the rest are served hot.

At Full of Beans, it is advisable for the coffee to be served without sugar. The reason being is that the desserts served are already sweet and the best to complement with it is pure black coffee. As a complement to Full Of Beans, Sweet Forest is serving all kinds of dessert for the diners to savour.

French Petites For Four – RM1.50 each

Paris- Brest Cycling Race (Filled with vanilla cream & topped with strawberry, kiwi rose berry or other fruits)

Chou Chocolate (Chocolate Cake)

Cappuccino Puff (Filled with cappuccino)

Fruit Tat (Filled with vanilla cream & topped with strawberry, kiwi rose berry or other fruits)

For these four options, I personally love Cappuccino Puff. The taste was not too sweet yet with slight bitterness from the Cappuccino which was more appetizing.

French Macaroon – RM2.50 each, French Macaroon is a sweet confectionery made with egg white, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder or ground almond, and food coloring. The common available flavors are as below:

Green Tea

Orange

Mocha

As for Franch Macaroon, I love the orange flavor as the scent of orange and sourness as they made me feel refreshing. However, these Macaroon are slightly on the sweet side with is not really my cup of tea.

Semolina Cake - 6” RM35, 9” RM58, currently at this moment all cakes sold at Full Of Beans are not served in slices yet as this place still needs a fridge to keep them.

The taste of Semolina was very nice. However, it was very rich and I could only manage to finish one slice of it.

Strawberry Layer Cheese Cake - 6” RM42, 9” RM75, The cheese cake was made in layers with cheese in between and cookie base at the bottom part. On top it was covered with strawberry fruits and on the side was full of almond flakes.

The cake was very fruity and nice. However, there was still lack of lemonade touch that would otherwise make the cake more appetizing.

Pandan Layer Cheese Cake 6” RM42 9” RM75, the cake was made with pandan, layered with cheese and with cookie base. The side of the cake was covered with coconut slices.

I love the scent of pandan. However, I didn’t really fancy about the coconut. This is not my cup of tea.

For those who are interested in ordering the cake and pastry, please refer to below contact for reservation:

Sweet Forest - 0124765970 / 0164936640

Overall, the place is very cozy and is great for relaxation. The price of the coffee here is about the standard of starbucks but the varieties are more. There also serve desserts to complement with the coffee which are dedicated to those who have a sweet tooth.

Straits Quay is the latest hangout in Penang. This place is packed with people from all walks of life especially on weekends.

The decoration of Chinese New Year is still around although it is already over 3 weeks.

Straits Quay is located at Seri Tanjung Pinang. The place is part of the development project by E & O group, the master-planned of waterfront community on Penang’s northeast coast.

Not to introducing too much on Strait Quay, actually my main focus today is how to eat and drink like a German? There are quite a number of places in Penang that serve German food. However, some places only serve specific dishes on a particular day of the week, which lacks of flexibility for the customers. Whereas some do not emphasize on ambience and play Chinese and Korean songs instead. Not to mention most of them are so pricey that my pocket is bursting out with blood after dining there.

The place that I am introducing below serves every dish round the week, plays nice German music at an affordable price and most importantly, they serve German draft beer.

It is not difficult to locate Berlin’s Bier Houz. Once you have arrived at Straits Quay main entrance turn to right wing and walk for another 30 meters on the outer corridor and you will soon see a shop with a big Lowenbreu logo in front.

There are few sections at Berlin’s Bier Houz, the first section is the pub area where there are high tables and chairs. It is designed for drinking session.

The second section is the dining area for customers to enjoy their meals. Obviously the dining tables and chairs are lower.

The third third section is the outdoor dining area which is also the smoking area. It is just beside the quay where you will be able to view the scenery.

The menu of Berlin’s Bier Houz.

Lowenbrau Original (1 pin) – RM30. To drink like a German, firstly you need to love the German Beer. The beer is very smooth and the bitterness of this beer is much lesser compared to some of the commercial beers around. The beer has slight sweet ending. Anyway, with such a hot weather recently, this beer really chills the throat down.

Ice Blended Cappucino/ Chocolate – RM10.00. For those teetotaler, you might want to consider the ice blended drinks here. This beverage is so thick with chocolate and it is topped with cream and some chocolate topping. Slurp.

German Pork Knuckle Whole RM43.00; 1/2 portion RM25.00. To eat like a German, you need to enjoy pork as Germans are No. 1 pork consumer in the world. However their steak are much degraded compared to other European Countries.

The picture shown below is actually 1/2 portion of the pork knuckle. Just imagine if you ordered the whole portion, you can eat it for 2 days. The way of preparing the German style pork knuckle is first marinate the pork with salt, pepper, caraway and crushed garlic. It is then transferred to a roasting pan to cook and later to oven to grill.

The tenderness of the inner part of the pork was slightly chewy, while the outer part was very crunchy. The meat was a bit dry overall but the taste was great and the portion was huge. The is one of my favorites.

Pork Burger with Cheese – RM16.80. Marinated minced pork patty coated with cheese, topped with lattuce, pickled zucchini and chuck of fries.

The pork patty was so juicy and tender. It really mixed well with the sourness of pickled zucchini which boosts the appetite of dinning, while the melted coating cheese made the burger rich and tasty. The taste of this dish is a thumbs up. The only drawback is the portion provided is way too small and it is only 3-4 mouthful for me.

Berlin’s Special Pork Ribs – RM27.80. richly marinated pork ribs with spices and slowly smoked. It is topped with their homemade barbecue sauce while served with mashed potato, some lettuce, broccoli, tomato and some corns as garnish.

The tenderness of the meat was medium soft, the aroma of the spices was nice while the sauce blended very well with the meat.

Grilled Pork Chop – RM25.80. Grilled pork chop with apple sauce, together it was served with meshed potato, some lettuce, broccoli, tomato and some corns.

The tenderness of the meat was nice but the apple sauce didn’t blend in very well with the pork chop and the taste was just normal. Again, the portion was too small that I can finish in 3 – 4 bites.

Overall, the ambience and atmosphere is very classy and relaxing. It is a good place to hang out with a few friends after work. As for the food here, you need to be wise in ordering your food. Some of the dishes are worth the money and tasty while others are in small portion yet the taste is not up to par. For those who are planning to visit this place during Friday or weekend dinner time, please call for reservation. Most of the time this place will be full.

Feasting with suckling pig has always been an exclusive banquet in Chinese cuisine. Putting cruelty thoughts aside, suckling pig is a piglet which is fed on its mother’s milk and slaughtered between the ages of two and six weeks. The skin of the piglet is so crunchy and its meat is so soft and succulent. There are not much supplies of suckling pig in the market. Therefore, the price could be very high and has been classified as one exclusive dish.

There are quite a number of restaurants in town which serve suckling pigs. However, less than a handful of restaurants are able to preprare a good suckling pig dish. I have come across one restaurant which is able to prepare up to standard suckling pig dish and that is Forum Chinese Restaurant.

Forum Chinese Restaurant or 富臨閣 is not a very high profile restaurant and usually it is not crowded with people during the normal days unless there are wedding dinners or functions.

It is not hard to locate Forum Chinese Restaurant. The restaurant is located inside Island Plaza. If you are driving from Gurney via Jalan Tanjong Tokong, you will see Island Plaza is on your right, and Forum restaurant is on the 3rd floor of the shopping centre.

The set below is from Forum Set Menu (SET C) – RM688++

Baked Lobster Combination - baked cheese lobster, prawn fritters with mayonnaise and also fish maw stuffed with minced prawn.

The prawn fritters were fresh. The baked cheese lobster was rich with cheesy taste and was very delicious when served along with the sweet and succulent lobster meat. As for the fish maw stuffed with mince prawn, the fish mau had been cut into thin slices and it didn’t have the usual fishy smell.

Braised Shark’s Fin Soup with Shredded Fish Maw & Crab Meat - the shark’s fin had been braised with chicken stock and completed with shredded fish maw and crab meat with a touch of prawn roe.

As for this dish, the shark’s fins are aplenty. However, the taste of this soup was a bit mild compared to another type with dried scallops which I had tried before. My personal opinion is the fish maw had diluted the taste.

Roasted Suckling Piglet served with Slice Buns, the piglet had been roasted until the outer skin was crunchy while the meat was soft and succulent. The preparation of suckling piglet at this restaurant is one of the best in town.

The skin was so crunchy, yet it was not too oily.

The unique bun slices were served together with the suckling pig. For those who prefer something to go along with the suckling piglet’s skin, you may have it together with the bun.

Of course, the skin and the bun would not be complete without homemade sweet sauce and some spring onions.

After enjoying the crunchy skin slices, the meat of the whole piglet was cut into small pieces. You may choose to have the meat stir-fried or remained its original form. We chose the latter so that we could enjoy its tasty and soft meat.

Sauteed Two Kind of Vegetables -the dish was complete with fried lotus root, green beans, celery and black fungus with a finishing touch of deep fried salted squid and almond flakes.

The was just a usual mixed veggie dish. The plus point is on the generous amount of almond flakes and fried salted squid slices.

Steamed Garoupa Fish with Shredded Mushrooms in Soy Sauce - fresh garoupa had been steamed with top quality soy sauce, garnished with chives, spring onions, mushroom slices and ginger.

The fish was fresh and the meat was cooked with the correct timing. The texture was so soft. The only drawback is the fish is a little too small to cater for 10 pax.

Braised Village Chicken with Fresh Ginseng - the chicken was boiled for a long time with herbs like ginseng, wolfberry and dried longan.

The soup was very delectable, it was full fresh ginseng smell. For those who always work till late night or have a weak body, this soup will replenish your energy and make you stronger.

Pan-Fried Crispy Egg Noodles with Seafood - the crispy egg noodle had been placed as the base of the dish, while it was topped with Chinese cabbage (小白菜), mushrooms, carrots, fish fillets, pork slices and prawns. It was then covered with starchy gravy.

This type of dish is always served to stuff up those who do feel full after the entire feast.

Double Boiled Pear with Snow Fungus - The pear was cut into cubes and boiled together with wolfberries and rock sugar.

This hot dessert marked the end of the whole banquet. It was definitely a very refreshing and throat-soothing healthy dessert.

Overall, most of the food here are delicious. There are plentiful of parking space in Island Plaza. The usual day will be not crowded with people, and the pricing is at the middle to slightly higher range. The restaurant manager Mr. Ooi is a very nice person who will try his best to satisfy all his customers.

There are not many places in town that offer English afternoon tea. One of the few places that I had blogged before is Suffolk House Restaurant. Although the food and the ambience of Suffolk House is very satisfactory, the price of food is too costly for average consumers.

Therefore, it is a good to know that besides sophisticated Suffolk House, there is another place that provides good English afternoon tea but with a more affordable price. The name of this place is Annabelle’s Place.

If you are driving from town area towards this place, you will most probably need to use Jalan Mount Erskine and straight onto Jalan Fettes. Follow the Guillemard Reservoir Road and you will see Permai Estate (or Permai 32) on your left. Turn left to Jalan Lembah Permai 1, keep driving for another 150 meters and you will see a row of new shop houses on your right. Just in front of the shop houses the road is Tingkat Lembah Permai 3. Once you are on that road turn left and on your right hand there is a very big green field, Annabelle’s place will be a few shops ahead.

The interior and exterior of Annabelle’s Place are influenced by English/Victorian concept. The cafe is decorated with cottage-like displays and paintings. There was some classical soft music playing on the background and the cafe is facing the green field. Due to the quiet neighbourhood and out of the town area, this cafe is a serene and relaxing place to enjoy your favourite cuppa.

A very delicately-decorated menu.

Classic English Cream Tea for Two – RM19.00, A pot of tea of your choice for 2 pax, served with four freshly baked English scones with clotted cream and strawberry preserved.

The brand of the tea is Ahmad Tea. I believe this brand is imported and is not easily obtained from any hypermarkets here. No doubt the tea is imported, the taste was very mild to me.

The scones were served hot and were very delicious. Personally I don’t prefer preserved strawberry jam as it is sweet and artificial. Instead I love the clotted cream which was not too rich and the taste of the cream was very milky. I couldn’t have enough of the clotted cream but if I were to order extra I need to pay additional for it.

The scones were crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Besides, it had a lightly sweet touch from the raisins.

Creme Brulee – RM11.00. Like written on the menu, this is another must try. A classic French dessert which is simple yet beautiful.

It seems that preparing this dessert is not as easy as ABC. However, to the owner of Annabelle’s place, Annabelle Teow, it seems like this is an easy task for her to torch the Brulee for the final touch.

In fact, she seemed to enjoy torching the Brulee.

The Creme Brulee tasted very milky as well. It was slight sweet and the top was crunchy after being torched. However, inside it was still very soft and milky. It was a very nice dessert and I would definitely go back for this.

Overall, the place here is very peaceful and quite and there are plentiful of parking space along the road. The taste of the food is mostly up to standard. However, the price of the food is still on the high side even though it is much cheaper compared to Suffolk House. Most probably, is is due to the ingredients and the time taken for the preparation.

For those who have read my post on Budget Travel, Tips Guide to Bali before, you will realize that two of my greatest regrets that I had missed out during the visit are to try “Babi Guling” and Balinese style massage and spa.

Two years later, although “Babi Guling” still remains an incomplete mission, at least now I have the chance to try out the traditional massage and spa back in Penang. This place may be frequently patronized by the rich “tai-tai’s (women)” staying around in the middle-upper class precinct in Tanjung Bungah, however it may only be once in a bluemoon for a normal guy like me.

Thanks to Penang.CC who helped to arrange this invited review so that I get the chance to try out this exclusive retreat.

It is neither easy nor difficult to trace this place, unless you are familiar with Tanjung Bungah area. If you drive from town area via Jalan Tanjung Bungah, you will see Tanjung Bungah Beach Hotel is on your right and you will reach a traffic junction. Take the left turn to Tanjung Bungah Park (which is the road name). After that make a right turn and keep driving for another 30 meters. You will see Danai Spa is on your right.

Danai Spa, the nature inspired concept is undoubtedly very Balinese Style.

Upon stepping into the garden you will feel the soft gentle breeze brushed over your face and make you feel refreshed. There were birds chirping softly in the background and crickets chirping on rhythmically. The pond with Japanese Koi fish complements the place with a very calming and spiritual sensing.

A nice Buddha head sculpture displayed on the counter.

The common seating area for Manicure and Facial Therapy.

The manicure and nail polisher sets.

The changing room for ladies or couples. By the way, this place is a healthy retreat centre and no “hanky panky” stuff.

The robe for gentlemen.

The Balinese style robe for ladies.

We were invited to try on their special promotion package - ”Christmas Romance Package”. The spa session kicked off with foot reflexology, in which they will cleanse and massage your feet and legs.

After a refreshing and some ‘tickling’ moments in foot reflexology, we were guided to the Rainfall Pool. The gentle streaming of cooling water imitates the idea of pouring rain which will give you a delightful and fun experience.

It is especially designed for people who are seeking for a cooling of body temperature and it might be slightly cold for locals.

If you couldn’t get enough of bathing experience from the Rainfall pool, you may have extra showering done below. They are actually prepared for customers to clean their body before entering the jacuzzi.

Here comes the outdoor jacuzzi. Of all the relaxation techniques that people use, one of the most enduring ones is the power of heat. Warm water baths are used during Roman times to help relax and heal people. Today, jacuzzi uses the power of heat in therapeutic settings which have many benefits linked to its use.

The outdoor jacuzzi.

After the list of therapies that we had gone through, the main course of the session is the 90 minutes Danai Signature Massage (with Vitality Massage Oil by Pevonia).

There are many rooms for you to choose from to have your massage done. The Balinese Style has a rustic, Asian-inspired feel. For those who likes Balinese, this is the perfect couple room for you and your partner.

The following is the Moroccan Style, which has been made popular by the vogue of Riads renovation in Marrakech. I personally feel that this room has a Greek touch. This is also a couple room.

If you prefer to have some privacy, there is a single room available too in Oriental Style.

The English Style is another single room for your massage therapy session.

Due to we were not convenient to bring our cameras to the massage rooms, I will briefly describe the progress instead.

For the massage session, the Vitality Massage Oil used smells like lemon grass and it is known to have the function of detoxing and healing. The massage technique is excellent and the strength is moderate. You may request for stronger or lighter massage strength, depending on your personal preference.

After the massage, we had a body scrub session. There are choices of Pure Rose Body Scrub and Honey Milk Body Scrub. The smell of Honey Milk is very ‘delicious’, just like butter cookie smell.

Next was the Basic Facial Massage or Pure Rose Bath Soak which then end the session.

Overall, the whole spa session is very relaxing and rejuvenating. It is a great place to get away after our busy lifestyle. However, it pays to enjoy this experience.

Below is the package promotion:

Christmas Romance package
90 minutes Danai Signature Massage (with Vitality Massage Oil by Pevonia)
30 minutes Pure Rose Body Glow
15 minutes Pure Rose Bath Soak
1X 30mL Pure Rose Body Scrub

Sawadee kap… For those that love Thai food and looking for a place that serves variety of affordable and value-for-money Thai food, the place that you are looking for is Copthorne Hotel. The price for the buffet per person is RM30 nett (Adult).

It is not hard to locate this hotel as it is just along the coast of Tanjung Bungah. If you are driving through Jalan Tanjung Bungah from town area, you will probably see 4 majestic blocks of “The Cove“ super condominium. You will then see Copthorne Orchid Hotel sitting next to it.

Terrace Bay Restaurant is located at the lower ground of Copthorne Orchid Hotel.

Vast variety of Thai dishes are available for dinner patrons.

The carving of the watermelon that looks like a huge rose flower. It looks so delicious, but it is for display purpose only.

Most of the fruits and dessert were almost finished after 30 minutes they were served.

The salad corner.

To start the engine, there are varieties of appetizer. However, beware that a lot of them are spicy.

Appetizer

Papaya Mango Salad (Som Tam)

Besides the appetizer, there is also Tom Yam soup as starter which is hot and spicy.

Soup

All the varieties of Thai main course are available at the counter. One of my favourites is the egg omelet.

Main Course

Located outside of the main buffet hall are some fresh salad stall, fried koay teow stall and and also deep fried pandan chicken stall. My favourite is the fried koay teow which is full of pan fried flavour and served with big prawns. The taste is on par with Lorong Selamant fried koay teow.

Stall

Thai Kampung Chicken Rice (Kau Man Kai)

Thai Laksa (Khanom Chin)

BBQ Fish ball, Beef Ball, Crab Stick (Look Chic Ping)

(Yam Pladukfu)

Lastly, there are many desserts to end your course.

Dessert

Fresh Cut Fruits

Khanom Chan (Multi Layer Of Pandan Flavour Sticky Rice with

Coconut Milk)

Sweet Baked Pudding Containing Coconut Milk, Egg, Palm Sugar

and Flour

Khanom Tan (Palm Flavour, Mini Cake with Shredded Coconut on

Top)

Khanom Thuai Talai (Steam Sweet Coconut Jelly and Cream)

Lot Chong Nam Kathi (Pandan Flavour rice Flour Noodle In

Coconut milk, Similar To Cendol)

Salim (Multi Cour Mung Bean Flour Noodle in Sweetened Coconut

Milk Serve with crushed Ice)

The place here can be cater for 50+ tables.

There is also a kids indoor playground for the kids to hangout.

Overall, there are many variety of Thai dishes available for the customer and the price for the buffet is one of the most affordable in town. The taste of the dishes is acceptable and the fried koay teow is definitely a must-try. The drawback here is the lack of vegetables and non-spicy food. Parking is plentiful but will be insufficient when the hotel is hosting functions or dinners.
