Normally a place for great la tea does not come with good food. In fact, the tea house business is growing like mushrooms after the heavy rain in Penang. However, only a handful of tea houses provide snacks for you to munch while enjoying their famous milk tea.
One of the few places that offers good food and tea is the Fresh Fruit Tea Expert. It is not hard to locate this place. If you are following the Jelutong Express (Lebuhraya Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu) from Penang Bridge to town you will sure pass by Lebuh Macallum. When you see the traffic light turning into the right to Gat Lebuh Macallum, make that turn and drive straight for another 200 meters, Fresh Fruit Tea Expert is just on your left.
The Fresh Fruit Tea Expert does not have a very spacious space but it is very cozy. It is a place for retreat during hot afternoon.
Passion QQ Coco Green Tea 百香珍珠椰果绿茶 - RM4, this is one of their signature tea’s. The green tea had a sense of jasmine aroma. It was covered with some passion fruit flesh and some QQ jelly. The taste was refreshing and appetizing. It was a bit sourish but delicious.
Formosa QQ Earl Grey Milk Tea 500cc 台湾珍珠奶茶 - RM4, the taste of this Earl Grey Milk Tea was very common. The black pearl ball inside the milk also tasted like the usual ones that we had at other tea stalls.
Hokkaido Creamy Bacon Pasta 北海道奶油面 - RM7, The spaghetti was cooked in creamy white sauce. It was covered with garlic and bacon slices and sprinkled with some mixed herbs. The preparation of this dish was very simple. However, the taste was simply delicious.
Vietnamese Fried Rice 越南炒饭 - RM6, the fried rice was cooked together with chili, slices of Thai Basil leaves, shrimps and slices of squids. The outcome was aromatic due to the Thai basil leaves. The taste was quite unique as there are not many places in town that offer such type of fried rice.
Japanese Dumplings 和风烧铰子 - RM8, the dumpling was filled with minced meat and pieces of shrimps and then pan fried. It served well with their homemade chili sauce. This is a regular type of dish that you can get in any of the Taiwanese or Japanese restaurants.
Okonomiyaki 大阪烧 - RM12, the inner portion of this dish was pan fried with slices of cabbage, onion slices, some shrimps and cubes of squid. The outer layers was covered with a layer of pan-fried egg. It was then topped with teriyaki and mayonnaise sauce, and lastly, sprinkled with generous portion of bonito flakes.
While served the bonito flake were still ‘dancing’ in the wind. The taste was very delicious. For those who love cabbage like myself, this is a suitable dish for you. The portion was very big and can cater for 2-3 people.
Overall, this place serves the combination of good tea and nice food. This place is ideal for young people and students as a meet-up place and also for someone that enjoy a quiet and relaxing environment. The drawback is the parking and seatings are limited.
